The Staithe

The brief

Our clients wanted a kitchen that was more than just a place to cook—they envisioned a sociable, entertaining hub where family and friends could gather in style and comfort.


The space needed to be practical for hosting, with smart storage solutions to keep surfaces clutter-free, while also incorporating bold, standout design elements. The kitchen would sit within a beautifully extended and refurbished home, meaning it needed to blend seamlessly with the architectural character of the space while feeling fresh, modern, and inviting.

The design

At the heart of this kitchen is a striking sculptural island, designed as a multifunctional centrepiece that offers both practicality and elegance. We created a curved, lowered banquette seating area complete with a bespoke matching table, providing a cosy, informal spot for relaxed dining and conversation. This is complemented by higher bar seating at the end of the island, ensuring the space caters to both casual gatherings and more formal entertaining.

The cooking and prepping area is subtly defined by a unique raised storage section on the island, featuring glass-fronted display cabinets and reclaimed wine box door panel inserts - adding both personality and purpose to the space.


To enhance the sense of openness, we opted for mid and base-height perimeter cabinetry, ensuring that the room felt spacious while still offering plentiful storage. A striking natural stone splashback, carefully chosen to match the sculpted stone cladding on the island, serves as both a functional and artistic statement piece, reinforcing the kitchen’s elegant aesthetic.

For seamless entertaining, we designed a tall bank of cabinetry that houses a dedicated drinks cupboard and serving area, concealed behind bi-fold doors. This means it can be revealed when in use and discreetly closed away when not needed, ensuring the space always looks beautifully composed.

Beyond the main kitchen, we created a hidden pantry, utility, and back-up kitchen area, accessed through the tall bank. This discreet yet highly functional space features traditional stone cold shelves, an extra dishwasher, and additional storage - allowing the main entertaining area to remain pristine while used crockery and cookware stay out of sight.


The kitchen’s unique soft geometry design is brought to life with specialist paint finishes and bespoke colour palettes, developed specifically for our client. Finished with statement lighting, this space is a perfect fusion of form and function - an inviting, elegant, and highly practical social kitchen, crafted for entertaining at its finest.
