Kitchens Etc. & Johnny Grey:
A Match Made In The Kitchen

A collaboration rooted in innovation
and craftsmanship

At Kitchens Etc., we are proud to be the first curators of The Unfitted Kitchen—a revolutionary concept by Johnny Grey, the world’s leading kitchen designer. This collaboration marks a new chapter in kitchen design, blending unparalleled craftsmanship, intelligent design, and cutting-edge technology to create kitchens that are truly unique.

With a shared passion for pushing the boundaries of kitchen design, our partnership with Johnny Grey brings his visionary approach to life, delivering kitchens that are flexible, multigenerational, and life-enhancing.

What is an Unfitted Kitchen?

Originally introduced in the 1980s for Smallbone, Johnny Grey’s Unfitted Kitchen has been reimagined for today’s homes—retaining its charm while integrating the latest advancements in design and technology.

Unlike traditional fitted kitchens, The Unfitted Kitchen is a freestanding, modular concept designed around the principles of:

Flexibility

Customisable layouts that evolve with your lifestyle.

Intelligent, function-specific furniture

Thoughtfully designed pieces that prioritise usability and ergonomics.

Multigenerational inclusivity

A kitchen space that adapts to different needs and age groups.

Innovative technology

Featuring state-of-the-art cooking surfaces and energy-efficient appliances.

How Kitchens Etc. Became the First UK Curators

Our connection with Johnny Grey runs deep.

Mick Murphy, co-owner and head designer of Kitchens Etc., has been inspired by Johnny’s work since the 1980s, incorporating his principles into our bespoke kitchen designs.

Natalie Peters, our Managing Director and Designer, was mentored by Johnny while studying for the Kitchen Design Degree at Bucks New University, a groundbreaking course pioneered by Johnny Grey himself.

Since 2022, we have worked closely with Johnny, visiting his studios and experiencing firsthand the evolution of the Unfitted Kitchen concept.

Our passion for design-led, handcrafted kitchens made us the perfect fit to be the first showroom to launch and curate this visionary collection.

Speech marks

Kitchens Etc has a special place in my heart. The team - Mick and Natalie - share a vision pretty much identical to mine: we see the future of the kitchen as a place of happiness, with nurturing qualities only possible through the best of design and craftsmanship.

With their unique partnership I could not find a better team to collaborate with for Unfitted Kitchens. I am privileged to be working with them both.

In the news: Johnny Grey Unveils The Unfitted Kitchen in East Anglia

On Thursday, 23rd May 2024, world-renowned kitchen designer Johnny Grey officially launched the first Unfitted Kitchen showroom in East Anglia at Kitchens Etc. in North Creake, Norfolk.

The exclusive event brought together architects, designers, and industry professionals, who were treated to a live harp performance by Zoe Anderton, a drinks reception from award-winning Burn Valley Vineyard, and gourmet canapés and handmade chocolates from Hunters Academy of Food and Hunters Chocolates.

Guests were captivated by Johnny Grey’s talk on the evolution of kitchen design, the Unfitted Kitchen concept, and his work as co-chair of The Kitchen Education Trust (TKET), which champions kitchen design education. The launch marked a new chapter in bespoke kitchen innovation, showcasing how ergonomics, craftsmanship, and intelligent planning can redefine the heart of the home.

During the event, Mick and Natalie shared how Johnny Grey has influenced their careers - from Mick’s early admiration in the 1980s to Natalie’s mentorship under Johnny at university.

Natalie described the moment they first saw the prototype kitchen at Johnny’s studio:

"We were absolutely blown away. It was new, exciting, and beautifully complemented our own bespoke handmade furniture. We knew immediately that we wanted to be the first UK curators of the Unfitted Kitchen."
